Yeeha!! Perfect, as good as it gets!

I couldn't stand to stay at work any longer as the sun was shining and the wind blowing a hoolie, so off I headed to the beach at about 2pm. Derek and Stuart were out kitesurfing with a 9m kites, but Stuart was packing up as it was getting too windy and Derek was about to change down to hos 4m. Chris was also out, but was way overpowered with his 12m and all I saw of him was a walk of shame from a bit of a drag downwind... he came back later with a 7m kite to make up for it!

I rigged my 5m as flat as I could and wave board and soon got out there. I was pleasantly maxed out the whole time which meant I had plenty of power to punch out through the waves, although there wasn't actually any end to the whitewater, and out the back there were some big 8-10 foot faces and some monster swells. A couple got the better of me and at one point I got smacked around the head by my mast as the lip of a wave hit me whilst in the middle of a gybe on a monster! The impact spun me around and when I resurfaced my kit had disappeared so I had a bit of swim to find it!

After that I played it a little safer on the big waves and stayed out for a couple of hours with some big floaty jumps, some nice aerials and a few forward loop attempts. I didn't land any, but going for them is just so much fun! I then went in for a rest. By now the anenometers were reading 25 knots or so on the beach, but it felt a lot windier on the water and the fact that Derek was maxed out with a 4m kite means it must have been pretty windy out there.

I phoned Darren and persuaded him to come down, and then we both went out with 5m sails again. After Darrens first run he looked a little scared and just said...I could do with my 4.5m its gnarly out there! He soon settled down into the mad conditions though after a few rinsings! I tried a few more forwards and then went for a high end-over-end attempt, but caught the mast tip in the water and snappped the mast, ripping the sail with it.... Oh well, the mast still has 15 months warranty on it, so you never know.

All in all a perfect session (despite the final carnage) in glorious sunshine with LOADS of wind and waves!
